This folk dance, Zeilaeyo is very popular in modern DJibouti, Eastern Ethiopia and North West Somalia. The Ilays Band of Jigjiga is performing this traditional dance.
Here is the Zeilaeyo again performed in the National Theater, Mogadishu. Among the performers is the well-known poet and composer, Mohamoud Abdulahi (Sangub).
This is another popular Somali folk dance known as Kabeebey. It originates from Southern Somalia including Banadir and Shabelle.
Another traditional dance in south central Somalia
A group of Somali Bantu plays Shareero, a musical instrument similar to kirar played in Ethiopia and Eritrea. With their distinctive and rich culture, Somali Bantu refugees were mostly resettled in the United States by the US government. There is a large Somali Bantu population in Kansas City.
Highly respected Ahmed Naji Saad plays the traditional Oud (Kaban).
